All this feels strange and untrue...

As of late there has been a few changes going on in my life. The biggest change is I got a new job! Starting in about a week I will get to add medical assistant to waitress/hostess, clothes folder/cashier, and barista on my list of "Jobs Cadie Has Done." I'm really excited because not only will I get a nice pay increase but it's relevant to my career goals. I mean how many people get to make more money in a job that is actually helpful to achieving their dreams? I'm actually going to miss being a barista and my coworkers at Nordstrom but I'd be silly to not take this job. Besides, I'm going to stay on for weekends at least until the holiday season ends since I'd feel terrible to abandon my coworkers when they need the extra staff!

On a completely different note, it's been so cold here in NJ but no snow yet. As a former resident of Syracuse, NY it's a little weird for it to be so cold yet not have at least a foot of snow on the ground at this time of year. I haven't quite forgotten all those mornings trekking 12 blocks to campus from my house out on Westcott St. in the cold. However, this cold weather has gotten me excited about chunky sweaters and winter print leggings. My favorite purchase this season has probably been my earrings from Kimberly Baker!

I first saw them on Gossip Girl (yes I did watch it, yes I probably would still watch it if I had free time for tv) on Vanessa and immediately fell in love. There are a few other pieces I've been drooling after but unfortunately they're a little out of my price range especially since it's holiday season and I should be shopping for my loved ones! Speaking of which, I am completely behind online shopping but my problem has been that I have a hard time not buying something for myself after buying all my friends a gift from my favorite online stores. I hope everyone is having a good holiday season! :)

There is a light that never goes out...

And that light is in my room because I drink lattes at 10pm. I almost went an entire day without consuming any coffee but I couldn't help myself and Starbucks is open late. In my sleepless state I am angry that my computer refuses to play my 500 Days of Summer Soundtrack so I can put the Temper Trap's "Sweet Disposition" on my ipod and listen to it constantly and that I don't have V for Vendetta since that would be the perfect way to spend my night. That being said what was it exactly that I wanted to post about on my blog? Oh right, tights. Now that it's gotten semi-cold in NJ (Ok probably really cold but when you spend 4 years in Syracuse this whole 40-50 degree weather thing still doesn't faze you) I am obsessed with pairing everything with tights and pretending like it's appropriate for the weather.

Today I wore this tiny cute semi-romper (It has BOTH a skirt to make it look like a dress and shorts underneath) from Urban paired with one of my new pairs of Cynthia Rowley tights that I am IN LOVE with.

Yeah yeah I realize that my picture does not do my outfit justice but at 12:30am eastern time after a long day of eating and going to the movies I just don't have the heart to properly charge my camera battery that just died. In addition to that tomorrow I have to face the hoards of crazy women who are Nordstrom shoppers at the Woman's Half Yearly Sale so please forgive me.

There's something in common between our lives...

Lindsey told me to blog something and being my best friend and all, she does get some say in my life. I get so caught up in work and making mistakes that again and again the good ol blog gets put on the back burner. However, shopping never gets put on the back burner because even if I can't make it out to the mall (when I'm not working at one) I can always shop online. I just made the purchase of a fantastic scarf from Snoozer Loser which I am super excited about and I wish I had the money to buy more from them! I originally saw photos of their FW 10 collection on one of the blogs I read (I think it was calivintage) and immediately fell in love with the great prints.

I'm anxiously awaiting this scarf!

I immediately fell in love with the scissor print and then the birdcage skirt! After more investigation I found an owl print that they do which is too cute (I'm a sucker for birds if you can't tell).

Hint Hint: crazy electric blue birdcage scarf would be perfect as a present! :D

Like the sound of sirens to a house on fire, you're saving me...

Shoes. I'm pretty sure shoe perusing online is what is saving me from complete meltdown. In addition to the stress of not having my medical school secondaries all completed I have my first microbiology test on Tuesday and absolutely no time to prepare what with me being owned by Nordstrom Espresso Bar. I have a unhealthy obsession with Seychelles lately and my goal is to be able to use my saved up tip money to buy a new pair!

Romance Bootie

Hawk Wedges

Sweeping Stitch Heels (Seychelles for Anthro)

I think I'm leaning towards the first boots only because I can use my Nordstrom discount but the Seychelles for Anthropologie heels are so prettyyy.

"If you love her," I said, "you'll love somebody else someday."

My life is strange and busy lately. I've been taking a class to keep me in the academic mood in addition to working full time, volunteering and trying to fit in a social life. I got ice cream at a local place near me and they had this awesome pumpkin/pralines something with a strange name, Autumn something or other! Tonight I'm meeting a friend at Cheesecake factory so I decided to do an outfit post after having my doctor telling me I always look like someone who has it together :D

I was going to crop my pictures but I got lazy haha

Lace top and Necklace - Urban Outfitters
Full Woven Skirt - American Apparel (I love their new fall clothes)

I'm still in love with my nail polish (American Apparel in Office!) so really that was the reason for my first picture, however, it seems to fit with my crazy life lately.

Being Warm is Overrated

As far back as I can remember, I've always enjoyed the cold and fall/winter. I was that little girl running around the house in her bathing suit while snow lay on the ground outside. That being said I got my bachelor's from Syracuse University, which is a place where no one is surprised if it starts snowing mid-October. Despite lots and lots of snow I still tended to underdress and this year I want to invest in a nicer jacket. While searching I came across the BB Dakota/Jack by BB Dakota jackets and fell in love.

I especially love the blue one but it has an interesting zipper on the back. I hope everyone enjoyed Fashion's Night Out, I got stuck serving coffee at our Nordstrom event.

If Only Money Grew On Trees

With all the payments I've had to make in the last two weeks I really do wish I had a money tree. It seems like all my "bills" were due at once since I had to pay my medical school application fees (I still probably have to pay another $1200 for secondary apps), tuition for the one class I'm taking and my loan payment. It's really hard to watch all the money I made this summer go away knowing I had about 2 actual full days off and no life for about 2.5 months but I guess I had to grow up sometime. Anyway, I had a good time in St. Louis with Lindsey and I am kind of excited about my microbiology class despite the hour commute two days a week.

On a completely unrelated note I noticed in my wishlists/favorites around the web I have a lot of bicycle related jewelry that has caught my attention so I thought maybe I'd share it here.

I really like these "Ride Your Bike" Earrings by Boujour World on etsy. The shop also has some other cute jewelry including a ride your bike necklace and sailboat earrings (I have a thing for boats as well as bikes :D)

Another cute piece of jewelry is the Bike Love Necklace by Rachel Pfeffer Designs. Her shop has a lot of cute jewelry including some really fun honeycomb pieces.

The Bicicletta Necklace by Linkel Designs caught my eye because of the cute old fashioned bicycle design and it comes with a flower that adds a splash of color.

These are just some simple Bicycle Earrings from UrbanOutfitters.

I think I have bicycles and bike riding on the brain because the past few days I've been itching to pull out my bicycle, hope my tires stay inflated and just go on a nice leisurely ride around the area I live in...maybe tomorrow after work!

Summer days drifting away...

"Summer" is finally coming to a close and now that camp is over I have a week or so before I possibly start the one class I'm hoping to take this fall. I've been having so much trouble registering and I'm crossing my fingers that I can work it all out Monday or Tuesday because Wednesday I leave for ST. LOUIS!

One of my bffs goes to school there and last summer around this time I drove out there with her. It will be nice to finally have days off (I haven't had a day off since about July 11th, SERIOUSLY?!) and it will be nice to see Lindsey before our busy lives pick up again and we won't have a lot of time to chat.

We went to the arch and travelled in this tiny pod to the top.

The view of St. Louis from the top was great but the view of the river was kind of gross because it's all brown and weird haha

The giraffe got really close!

There was a fun pond in the botanical gardens and we had lunch at this cute little place nearby that had cupcakes :)

Hi Linds!

I really am super excited to go back and I plan on getting my fill of all the cute summer clothes I haven't been able to wear since most days I'm stuck in my camp t-shirt and then all black when I go to Nordstroms.

Shut Up, I'm Your Person

I started watching Grey's Anatomy when I first met Ian. He had the first season and we spent hours watching it together. I kept watching on my own after that, always taking time out on Thursdays even on my busiest days in undergrad. To me, a good tv show sucks you in and you feel for the characters and with Grey's that's what kept me coming back for more every Thursday. I sympathized with Meredith as she found out her boyfriend had a wife and felt George's pain as he watched Meredith date, breakup and get back together with Derek. I wanted to have a friendship like Cristina and Meredith's and hoped for the day that I'd be in med school and on my path to being a doctor. Tonight I pulled out season 2 and decided to watch an episode before bed and I felt the same feelings as before. Grey's is one of those shows that won't get old for me.

"You were like coming up for fresh air, it's like I was drowning and you saved me. It's all I know."

"It's not enough."

One of my favorite Meredith/Cristina moments.

I've been so busy working this week that I haven't been able to follow and check up on the fashion blogs I usually read daily. I was even so busy that I missed seeing that I won a giveaway over at Kendi Everday! I can't wait to choose a bag from Jenny N. Designs, I may even splurge on a baby ruche, who knows!

Saturday, July 17, 2010

If I were a successful fashion blogger, instead of your regular everyday barista/camp EMT, receiving freebies on a regular basis, the item I'd wish for most would be surprise bags. I have an apalling collection of purses for someone who should be saving her money for more important things like thousands of dollars worth of college loans but sometimes I can't help myself and often I find it hard to part with any of my bags no matter how little I wear them or how childish they must look.

I've been lusting after a few purses lately including:

The Coach Poppy Leather Button Bag. Usually I'm more of a giant purse kind of girl but I've been trying to broaden my horizons and I am getting into the crossbody look.

Coach Peyton Drawstring. An older coach bag, I never thought I'd be into drawstring bags but after seeing it on Aimee's blog I fell in love!

The Baby Ruche by Jenny N. Design. I love her bags and I think it's really interesting how she started out as a biomedical engineer.

Marc Jacobs Airliner Foldover Clutch. I have been in the market for a large foldover clutch but I haven't had time to sit around and monitor ebay auctions so this may have to wait. :(

I'm starting to lose steam considering I've worked about 22-23 hours in the past two days so I just want to add that I also really like just about everything from the past two Marc by Marc Jacobs collections haha :D There are many more bags that would make my "really want" list but I'd be here forever and you all would get bored!

I Wake Up Exhausted...

Tegan and Sara's song "Wake Up Exhausted" perfectly describes my feelings as of late. I wish I could be a better, more consistent blogger but to be honest, lately I don't have much time for anything besides sleeping. I've been working 2 (sometimes 3 jobs) and it's been difficult to say the least but me, ever the workaholic overachiever brought this onto myself :D I love my summer camp job, dealing mostly with bumps, bruises and bloody noses. The counselors, though most of them are a good 3 years younger than me (or more) keep me laughing and the kids are a constant source of entertainment when they're not screaming and crying about a bruised knee or a cut finger. I'll be sad when the summer and camp ends.

The picture above comes from my trip to Syracuse weeks ago when we got stuck in the rain at the zoo. I was stalking a bird and Alida captured me trying to sneak up quietly behind it. I wish I could head back up but it doesn't look like I will have a free day until the end of August when camp ends and I can go back to working full time at just Nordstrom.

Anyway, besides Syracuse I miss being able to shop at real stores instead of mostly online (besides the fact I'm skittish about online shopping after someone stole my debit card number and made 2 purchases). At least at the end of the summer I should have a nice amount of money saved and will be able to go on a little shopping spree :D

P.S. I bought jeggings from American Eagle (yes I just cringed typing that word). Not only are they awesomely comfortable and fit my abnormally skinny ankles but with my employee discount that I get for working floorsets, they were $19.75 SO WORTH IT! I'm still cringing from their name though.

Will you fly me away...

I took these screencaps maybe a week ago thinking I'd make a post the next day but then life took over and here I am making the post now. I love the concept of having a digital book reader mainly because of the sheer number of books you can have access to in seconds and it would be useful for road trips or vacations where you may want to read more than one book. At the same time I love having a hard copy of a book, to be able to feel the pages and read the words right there in print. I've been an avid reader since I was young, reading and rereading books constantly. I used to walk around the house with a soccer ball at my feet and a book in my face, I would even eat dinner with a book in hand.

If you are thinking, "Get to the point Cadie, where are the rest of the screencaps you mentioned earlier?" I'm getting to them :D The point of me evening taking the screencaps is that the Amazon Kindle has some of the best commercials (reminiscent of my favorite Target commercials) and I'd thought I'd share some of the fun with you (None of these images belong to me, all taken from the Amazon Kindle commercials).

It's not Syracuse without rain (or snow)

After my week and a half from hell ended, I threw some things in a backpack and took an impromptu trip up to Syracuse, where I had spent the better part of 4 years for undergrad. One of my lovely housemates still lives there in the house we lived in for junior and senior year and I was more than happy to spend the next 24 hours with her, her boyfriend and some of her new housemates :)

We watched Finding Nemo and went to the zoo, where of course it poured for the better part of our visit but I still had a great time. After looking through the pictures I took at the zoo I realized that there are pretty much none of people, just animals, and I want the ones that Alida and Ashli took on their cameras!

During a moment of really heavy rain we hung out with the snow leopards. Neither of us wanted to be directly in the downpour. I also spent the better part of our time at the zoo making up what I thought the animals were thinking...plus we found Nemo and his dad, Jacque and Dory!

Overall, my trip was worth it despite having to get up on Wednesday at 7am so I could drive home, shower and be at work by 1pm. :D
